welcome to spooky season

Quality children's literature touches on a sort of absurdity that makes it brilliant (and kind of camp?) to read as an adult. Not if you are seeking the adult extremes of believability or complexity but if you want to find the surreal.
Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass will always be some of my favourite literature because of that.
A horror story about someone who has lived in apartments all their life moving to a secluded little house in the middle of nowhere, who takes quite a long time to notice that something is off - being used to living with and sleeping through the sounds of other people living their lives, it takes a minute to process that the footsteps from above are not normal. There is no upstairs neighbour.
There is no upstairs.
